but for those of you who want the artist's view, here goes:

There's been a war, destroying Amaya's (the girl's) home and family. However, she not only survived, she killed the man who murdered her family (he's the man on the pike) and is kneeling before a demon altar... planning to make an offering in exchange for the power to take revenge.
