Letter to a Younger Self
Sit down somewhere where you can be alone,
And write a letter to your younger self.
There's nothing you can do to change the past
But this letter has all the rules you wish you'd known.
Keep it up and you will find
You've written a letter quite like mine.
For every sentence on the paper
Here's a reason from my mind.
For the shy girl in the corner, only one message can be found:
"Step up and try it out, you may make friends you can't do without."
Because if you don't, you'll wish you had
Or you'll lose chances all around.
The girl who hates her homework really needs to know,
"All this work should be done before you go have f
Smiles and laughter,
Biting of lips and tears
Expressions of emotion
That really are the same!
Does one else laugh,
When they don't want to be seen in pain?
Does no one else bite their lip,
If smiling isn't right?
So tired of being misunderstood
So tired of stepping carefully
Do they not understand
That I have feelings too?
I smile when I'm sad,
And joy becomes more real.
Will laughing when I'm mad
Make me feel glad?
Overwhelmed by emotions,
I cannot their judgment!
I'm tired of stepping carefully
It's time for me to dance.
Overwhelmed, overworked,
I can't keep up with it all.
Smiling, laughing...
Just trying to keep from crying!
No way to keep myself sane,
Unable to prevent the pain,
I have to give it up.
Can't make a life without a sacrifice.
Always tense
And on the verge of tears...
Pills let me sleep at night,
Knives under the pillow anchor me now.
They offer false apologies,
While others smirk and laugh.
I look away,
My hair provides a shield for my tears.
I'm overwhelmed, overworked
I can't keep this up.
Tears soak my pillow at night,
I need to give it up.
Laughing out loud,
Unable to stop --
I watch slivers of glass fly all around.
Too long have I been chained...
Chained to a mirror,
Chained by their loving expectations!
I kept my personality bound up,
My heart hidden by a silent mask...
"I" was the mirror image.
Now I laugh,
Strike the mirror once again --
And cry out as I begin to bleed.
There is no safety,
No way to truly hide.
I am what I am...
Just another fractured mirror image of an unattainable perfection.
Laughter surrounds me as I kneel upon the floor. There's no way out, at least no way that I can see. Who would have thought that it would happen like this? Who would have imagined that a simple game could possibly have such harsh consequences? I certainly never did... and now I'm paying for it, and may very well end up paying for it with my life.
My name is Ali, and I once was a regular girl much like the girls you'll find in high schools throughout America. Now, however I'm a slave to Aoibheal, Lady of the Bright Throng... what the fae call a "thrall." But I doubt that you're really interested in that sordid story! Instead, you wa
Ali lifted her hand... and knocked.
She then stood back from the door and waited for it to be answered -- and when, five minutes later, it was jerked open, she found herself facing off against what might possibly be the most elegant man she had ever seen in her life. He was tall, with metallic silver hair, amber eyes, and skin so pale it might as well be translucent, yet in spite of his awe-inspiring appearance she found it hard to be afraid of him -- undoubtedly because the grey-skinned creature, Aoibheal, looked so terrifying.
"What do you want?" the man inquired irritably.
Biting her lip, Ali whispered, "Aoibheal has sent me to be
I walk through the dying garden of my life,
And catch hold of a falling snow-white rose...
Never again will I feel such pleasure
As I felt before I saw life's true face.
Clenching my fist, I feel my life-blood flow,
My blood and my tears water bone-dry earth,
And my gaze falls upon a blood-stained bush.
Light bleeds to dark, the world fades from sight.
